Shrewsbury confirm they’ve beaten West Brom and Stoke City to Michael Parker signing

Shrewsbury Town have confirmed that they have beaten West Brom and Stoke City to the signature of Michael Parker.

In an official club announcement, Shrewsbury noted that the 18-year-old had interest from the Albion and the Potters, as well as Scottish club Rangers.

He has joined Shrewsbury following a successful trial with the Midlands club at the end of last season.

“From London but formerly of Huddersfield Town, Michael played with our under-18s and trained with the first team for the final weeks of the 2022/23 season,” according to the official Shrewsbury website.

“He vastly impressed all first-team and academy staff with his understanding of the game, pace and ability to play in a variety of positions in defence.”

Exciting prospect

Standing at 6’4 and able to play in a variety of positions, it’s easy to see why the youngster attracted so much interest.

West Brom fans won’t have seen much of the 18-year-old, but they will perhaps welcome any signature with open arms, particularly ahead of the official opening of the summer transfer window.

The Baggies could, of course, come in for the player in the near future, but for now he looks set to try and hit the ground running at Shrewsbury for the next few years.

Fortunately for West Brom fans, it won’t be the last target for manager Carlos Corberan, who will be eager to strengthen his options ahead of the new campaign.

The club will undoubtedly be chasing Premier League promotion next time around, having fallen short this season despite a brave effort.

Corberan has done a fine job in the dugout, particularly with all the off-field distractions, but now it is time for the club to push on.

In other West Brom news, one manager has shared an update on the future of a “terrific” player wanted by the Baggies.
