Jay Mingi to exit Portsmouth as West Brom eye summer transfer

Portsmouth are ready to accept Jay Mingi’s career at Fratton Park is over as West Brom target the 22-year-old midfielder, according to the Portsmouth News.

The Blues are understood to have offered Mingi a three-year deal to ensure they receive compensation from whoever Mingi signs for (1 May).

Little progress has been made with the player and his representatives and it now appears the South Coast club have accepted his departure.

The youngster has been hampered by injuries during the second half of the campaign and has never featured under new boss John Mousinho.

It’s believed Mingi’s representatives are confident there will be takers for the 22-year-old if he does depart.

Avoid

Considering Mingi has played a handful of competitive games during his career, this is a move West Brom should avoid.

He’s going to be 23 this year. He’s not a young player anymore. Quite why his agents feel he deserving of a deal elsewhere is remarkable. He should be looking to sign a new deal at Fratton Park and show that he is a capable League One player before looking elsewhere.

He has the potential, but, at present, his attitude and application are missing. West Brom will be looking to shop in the free agent market this summer. Funds are likely to be at a premium at The Hawthorns. Free agents will be the market for Carlos Corberan.

West Brom

There were some success stories last summer. Jed Wallace and John Swift have been impressive additions. With there being so much uncertainty surrounding the ownership, transfer planning will likely take a back seat for the time being.

In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer has given his seal of approval to a “very good” Baggies transfer target.
