Carlos Corberan: West Brom to Leeds United exit real possibility amid ‘serious’ update

Carlos Corberan is a “serious contender” to leave West Brom and take up the vacant manager role at Leeds United as his name keeps coming up the most, according to Dean Jones.

The 40-year-old is being heavily linked to Elland Road for the second time this year after the Whites were relegated to join the Baggies in the Championship.

There is great uncertainty behind the scenes currently at The Hawthorns and former Eurosport journalist Jones believes that there is a strong focus from the Leeds hierarchy on the West Brom boss.

West Brom

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Corberan is the one I’ve heard the most about for this job. I don’t know if he’s the favourite for the job, but of the names talked about, they definitely like him.

“They’ve considered him before and kept a close eye on his management style and how he deals with players. I think he’ll be a serious contender.”

Locked on

It is no surprise that Corberan would be a contender after the turnaround he brought about at West Brom this season.

That is the very reason why the club need to do everything they can to once again keep him at The Hawthorns if they want to maintain some confidence that he can do the same next season.

In one way it would seem illogical for the Spaniard to emphatically end speculation over a move to Elland Road in February by signing a new contract when Leeds were a Premier League side only to leave once they had fallen into the Championship.

West Brom

But at the time it appeared that the two clubs were heading in opposite directions, with a play-off push still very much alive for the Albion.

The concerning financial developments since then, coupled with the fact that the team missed out on the play-offs at the death puts the two sides at the same starting point, but with Leeds arguably in a stronger position to go back up.

While they have parachute payments to work with and new owners coming in, quite what the Baggies squad that has already spent two seasons in the second tier will look like at the beginning of the new campaign is currently anybody’s guess.

So, Albion fans will be hoping above all that Leeds zero in on another candidate and their admiration for Corberan remains only that.

In other West Brom news, contact may have already been made over a managerial move from the man running the show at Elland Road.
