Leeds United can trigger West Brom clause for Carlos Corberan easily – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United can easily trigger the release clause of West Brom manager Carlos Corberan if they wanted to appoint him.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Spaniard has a clause of £2million in his contract after signing a new deal at the club only months into his tenure at The Hawthorns.

The finance expert admitted that Leeds can afford that, even after relegation from the Premier League despite all of the challenges that come along with that.

“It certainly tests their resolve,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

A £2million release clause, if you are Leeds United you can afford to pay that, even with the challenges of being relegated and wage bills, parachute payments.

If that really is the man you want, then Leeds can really trigger that quite easily. It then becomes a question of the person themselves, and that is when you can’t get a handle on that as each individual will react differently.

From a financial view, if nothing else, you could quite easily see a relegated club like Leeds triggering that release clause and that is probably a worry for West Brom as well.”

It feels like a case of De Ja Vu at The Hawthorns, with Leeds once again linked to their former coach and current Baggies boss, Corberan.

This looks as though it may come down to personal motives for the gaffer, who may have a decision to make very soon if Leeds put their money where their mouth is.
