West Brom-linked Jay Mingi to exit Portsmouth as confirmed transfer news drops

West Brom have been linked with a move for Portsmouth midfielder Jay Mingi – and the latest news to come out of Fratton Park could be good news for Baggies fans.

The Portsmouth News reported on 1 June that the Blues are ready to accept that the 22-year-old midfielder will move on despite a contract offer on the table.

The latest transfer news to emerge from Fratton Park has all but confirmed his departure.

Pompey have confirmed the signing of 19-year-old Glentoran midfielder Terry Devlin for an undisclosed fee. The teenage sensation has joined John Mousinho’s side with an eye to making an impact next season.

It’s highly unlikely the South Coast club would have signed Devlin if Mingi was going to stay put.

From a West Brom perspective, a move for the 22-year-old could make a lot of sense. Mingi has shown moments of quality during the 2022/23 season and has the physical attributes required to make an impact at Championship level.

Furthermore, on a free transfer, this could be an astute piece of business. Despite talk emerging of new investment at The Hawthorns, there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the financial situation in the West Midlands.

Carlos Corberan may have to deal in the free agent market for the duration of the summer with the Baggies unlikely to splash the cash when it comes to transfer fees.

With Mingi almost certain to be a free agent, this could well be one to keep an eye on for The Hawthorns faithful.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies will listen to offers for one-star defender and a big-money signing this summer.
