Leeds United approach update emerges on Carlos Corberan amid £2.5m West Brom development – Phil Hay
Leeds United have yet to request permission from West Brom over speaking to head coach Carlos Corberan to fill the vacant managerial role at Elland Road, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
It is a close season of transition for Leeds, who are still waiting for EFL approval on the full sale of the club from Andrea Radrizzani to 49ers Enterprises.
The prospective new owners are said to be heavily involved in discussions over who will be in the dugout next season, with Sam Allardyce having left his role after an ill-fated four-game spell ended winless and saw Leeds relegated from the Premier League.

Corberan is known at Leeds with the Spaniard having worked under Marcelo Bielsa, while his work at Huddersfield and West Brom has reportedly won him admirers at Elland Road.
However, Hay wrote in The Athletic (20 June) that while out-of-work bosses Daniel Farke and Scott Parker – both with Championship promotions on their CVs – are on the club’s interview list and former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is of interest, no move has yet been made for Corberan, suggesting there’s no focus on him.
It was revealed last month that Corberan, who only signed a new contract in February, has a £2.5million release clause in his Baggies contract.
No news is good news for West Brom
West Brom are a club, like Leeds, facing their own busy off season amid financial and cash-flow worries.
The off-field problems have led to inevitable questions over the future of highly rated boss Corberan, questions that were exacerbated by the departure of CEO Ron Gourlay, a close ally of the Spaniard.
Phil Hay’s latest update offers some hope to Baggies supporters that Corberan will remain at The Hawthorns, though.
It appears the main sticking point is the release fee, albeit it appears a relatively modest one in the ridiculous world of football finance.
But with creditable candidates such as Farke, Parker and Vieira available – all with varying degrees of past success, the former two both in the Championship – and available for free, it looks like Corberan is not yet at the front of the queue to replace Allardyce.
For West Brom fans, the best news on Corberan right now is no news.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Campbell predicted some of the club’s youngsters will leave this summer.
