Dangerous twist as West Brom investment news emerges – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...

Dan Plumley has warned West Brom not to get ahead of themselves after takeover news emerged from The Hawthorns over the past couple of weeks.

The Athletic has reported that Mohamed El Kashashy and Chris Farnell are looking into an initial investment that could lead to a complete takeover.

The finance expert admitted it was “dangerous” to assume that they would instantly be better owners than the “dire” current situation at the club.

“We’ve seen this name around recently with other clubs so you know that there are things happening behind the scenes,” he exclusively told West Brom News.

“If a person or ownership group is looking at one club, it’s likely they’re are looking at several other clubs. That is a factor where fans get a little wary, as they have seen that name banded around before, it’s likely that these conversations have been in play.

The reaction we have seen is down to how you perceive things because it’s quite clear that the ownership situation at West Brom has been dire and even though there is nervousness around the names being thrown around here, there is almost a narrative of it is better than it has been before.

That is still quite dangerous as well, so you have to be careful how you perceive the news. It’s likely that conversations have taken place, but it is also likely that consortium or connections has also been looking at other clubs, so they usually have a hit list.”
