Fresh twist revealed in Leeds United quest to hire West Brom boss Carlos Corberan

Leeds United reportedly extensively discussed the prospect of bringing back current West Brom manager Carlos Corberan to Elland Road.

According to the Athletic [23 June], the Whites held interviews with candidates this week and Corberan cannot be ruled out at this stage.

Despite his release clause set to be in excess of £2million, he’s still someone held in high regard in West Yorkshire.

The report read, “Prior to those interviews taking place, time was spent discussing West Brom’s Carlos Corberan. Leeds had seen good things from him in his prior role as their development-squad coach and as part of Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team staff and they were impressed by his impact at Huddersfield and West Brom.

“But unlike many of the other candidates involved, Corberan was not a free agent and was subject to a release clause at The Hawthorns, thought to be set in excess of £2m.

“As of the early part of this week, Leeds had not contacted West Brom about activating his release — but he is never one to discount because he is held in high regard at Elland Road.”

Likely to stay

Leeds have interviewed other and more experienced candidates and they’re likely to be ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order.

With Patrick Vieira and Daniel Farke and even Scott Parker – none of them have any compensation clauses as they’re all out of work.

It’s going to be easier to hire them and thus far nothing has been said about speaking to Corberan so West Brom fans can breathe easy.

Corberan may be tempted to move to Leeds as it’s a new regime there and he’s already got a certain amount of goodwill there.

However, if there is no formal approach, then talks are also unlikely to take place and he’s not a priority option for them at the moment.

Although, things can change but they’re very unlikely to change so dramatically that none of the top three candidates seem viable.
