Former Doncaster boss Danny Schofield could be in line for West Brom coaching role

It has been suggested in the Doncaster Free Press that former Doncaster boss Danny Schofield could be in line for the vacant coaching role at West Brom, due to his links to Carlos Corberan.

The highly-regarded coach previously worked with Corberan at Huddersfield where he was part of his coaching staff, as well as during his time as Leeds’ under-23s manager. Schofield was sacked by Doncaster last month following their lowest finish in the EFL for 20 years.

This news comes after Baggies first team coach James Morrison left to work under Steve Clarke in the Scotland international setup.

Having a coaching staff that knows each other can be good

For the coaching staff to have worked together previously is often beneficial to their work on the training ground and can rub off positively on the players. A strong working relationship is important in understanding each other’s methods and the way things are done.

Schofield’s time at Doncaster wasn’t exactly a success, losing 19 of his 33 games in charge, nor was his time at Huddersfield where he lasted just 69 days. It has become clear that perhaps the position as a manager or head coach doesn’t suit him, but he is still highly thought of as a coach.

This addition to West Brom’s coaching staff would come as a familiar situation to Corberan, who is always keen to keep the same faces around him in his work, displayed by Jorge Alarcon – Corberan’s assistant at Huddersfield when they reached the playoff final, who then followed him to Olympiacos and finally West Brom.
