West Brom and Puma unknown emerges ahead of new kit reveal

It has been revealed that the deal between West Brom and Puma, which has been in place since 2018, has an unknown expiry date, according to the Birmingham Mail.

West Brom has been partnered with Puma since 2018, the same time span as their sponsorship deal with Ideal Boilers. With the Ideal Boilers sponsorship entering its final year, questions have been asked surrounding the length of their deal with Puma, which Birmingham Live have revealed has an unknown end date.

While no release date for the new season’s kits has been confirmed, it is speculated that the reveal will happen around the middle of July, with the away strip in line to be displayed first.

It may be time to move on

With the possibility of the Puma deal expiring next season, it may be time for West Brom to take a new direction with their kit manufacturer, should another similar or better deal come along.

Puma has been the Baggies’ partners for what will be a six-year spell, during which time they have made a mixed bag of good and bad kits, although there is only so much that can be done with navy and white stripes. The 2021/22 and 2019/20 kits stand out as two of the best, while 2020/21’s attempt is better left unmentioned.

Looking at what other manufacturers have done with striped kits, examples include Macron’s ‘scribble stripes’ at Crystal Palace, and the clean and classic black and white stripes provided for Newcastle by Castore ahead of the new season.

Either way, a more creative approach to the Baggies’ kit design would be a welcome breath of fresh air – with fans’ concept kit designs more often than not outshining the decisions made by the club.
