Daryl Dike returns to the training ground as he continues his injury rehab

West Brom striker Daryl Dike has returned to the club’s training ground and is now out of his protective boot and cast, as he continues his injury rehabilitation, according to the Express and Star.

Dike suffered an achilles injury in April which is set to keep the striker out for six to nine months, and is still in the early stages of his rehabilitation following successful surgery on the area.

The American striker being back at the training ground to continue his rehab will be a welcome sight despite no return date in the near future after he spent the summer break back in his home country. Early predictions suggested Dike could return between September and December.

Achilles injuries can be very hit-or-miss in recovery

West Brom fans will be hoping that Dike can hit the ground running upon his return to the first team whenever that may be, as the early suggestions of September to December would see him return during a crucial stage of the season with heavy fixture congestion.

It should be noted that when Dike returns, it will still take some time for him to get used to playing again, with some tentativeness around his injury to be expected.

Other high-profile stars who suffered this injury include Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, new Milan signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Hudson-Odoi has never quite looked the same since his injury, Loftus-Cheek has only recently started to get back to his best and has sealed a move to Champions League semi-finalists AC Milan after suffering the injury in 2019, while Eze has just recorded his best-ever season statistically, 22 months on from his own injury.

Fans of the Baggies will be hoping Dike’s rehabilitation matches that of Eze, rather than Hudson-Odoi, and that the striker can remain at the top of his game.
