West Brom transfer news as loan approach was made for Darko Gyabi at Leeds United
West Brom made a loan approach for Leeds United youngster Darko Gyabi in January, after the midfielder featured just three times in all competitions for Leeds last season, according to a report by Phil Hay of The Athletic.
Hay writes that Leeds had received offers to take Gyabi on loan in January, of which the one from West Brom was among the strongest, but the deal was cancelled as the West Yorkshire side made the last-minute decision to keep him at the club.
Gyabi played just three times for Leeds last season after arriving from Manchester City, once in each competition they played in, so a loan move to the Baggies would have made sense for all parties had his parent club not decided to keep him there.

It is somewhat strange that this transfer wasn’t sanctioned by Leeds, given Gyabi’s lack of opportunities at Elland Road even after the move was scrapped, as it would have made sense for all parties.
Gyabi would have been able to prove himself in the Championship with a view to playing for Leeds in the future, which in turn would be a positive for the Yorkshire side, and West Brom would’ve landed a key target to improve their midfield situation.
The deal becomes even stranger when you think Leeds would have been going into their first season in the Championship following their relegation with a young midfielder already having six months of experience at that level.
This type of deal is still a positive for the Baggies though, and one they should be looking to do more of this summer, as they look for better deals in the transfer market.
Bringing in a top young player on loan from a Premier League side who are mistreating or underusing their talents should be somewhat of a priority at the Hawthorns with a lack of transfer funds available.
