Kevin Mfuamba spotted in West Brom first-team training at St George’s Park

Teenager Kevin Mfuamba was spotted training with the West Brom first team as they step up pre-season preparations at St George’s Park.

The Birmingham Mail ran a notebook piece on Thursday (13 July) detailing the Baggies’ sessions.

It mentioned how 16-year-old midfielder, alongside fellow youngster Harry Whitwell, joined the first-team players for a short game on a bigger pitch after other drills had taken place.

Mfuamba was one of nine players to sign a two-year scholarship with West Brom in July 2022 (official website).

Good to see youth involved

West Brom fans need no reminding of the difficulties the club face off the pitch, with debts mounting and star players likely departing to help lower the costs.

Indeed, captain Dara O’Shea has already joined Burnley, while Grady Diangana is a player whose name has been linked with fellow Championship sides Leicester City and Leeds United.

Head coach Carlos Corberan has spoken during pre-season about the prospect of utilising the Baggies’ academy to flesh out his first-team squad this season and the Spaniard has previously shown is ability to nurture young talent with the U23s at Leeds.

Mfuamba is a tally, box-to-box midfielder, and one whose star is on the rise. Back in January the 16-year-old earned international recognition with England’s Under-17 side.

He will hope for more chances to impress during pre-season and with a coach like Corberan, he should find opportunities will come his way. It is an exciting time for the young man.

In other West Brom news, Baggies youngster Caleb Taylor has designs on nailing down a first-team spot this season.
