West Brom handed cash windfall as £160m FIFA news emerges

West Brom have been handed a welcome financial boost by FIFA as a result of the 2022 World Cup, which took place in Qatar.

Argentina and Lionel Messi lifted the coveted trophy by defeating France on penalties on 18 December after an enthralling tournament.

And a report by FIFA has revealed that £160million was paid to a total of 440 clubs across the globe for the players that were sent to take part in the competition.

In total, the FA were paid £28.8million by FIFA and West Brom were one of 46 English clubs to benefit from the cash windfall as the Baggies pocketed £130,000 of that figure.

Important

This welcome injection of cash for West Brom demonstrates just how crucial it is to have international players within a club’s ranks and what benefits they can provide.

£130,000 is an extremely useful sum of money for a club fighting in the Championship to return to the Premier League and should be used by the club to add quality to their squad.

Of course, there is no guarantee or commitment that this money will be spent on transfer activity, but either way the funds will help the club to balance the books, whichever way they choose to spend it.

By returning to England’s top flight West Brom will be able to attract more international players to play at the Hawthorns in the coming years, which will mean they are able to benefit from more cash windfalls such as this one.

This demonstrates the importance to the board of trying to win promotion next season and therefore the need to use this welcome cash injection wisely.
