Karlan Grant on verge of loan move to Cardiff City as West Brom wage update emerges
West Brom striker Karlan Grant is on the verge of completing his loan move to Cardiff City, according to Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox.
Taking to his personal Twitter account (15 July), Cox reported that the Welsh outfit will pick up the majority of the expensive £15m Baggies man’s wages in order to seal his season-long loan move.
Grant has always been on the cusp of The Hawthorns exit door this summer, after playing a bit-part role under Carlos Corberan’s management last season following an 18-goal season the previous campaign.
Cox tweeted: “Karlan Grant set to seal season-long loan to Cardiff City, who will pick up majority of Albion forward’s wages.”
Unfortunate casualty
After Grant’s struggles to get into the West Brom team last season, his move away this summer was always going to happen and this can now be counted as Cardiff City’s gain and West Brom’s loss.
The Welsh desperately needed a goalscorer last season, recording one of the worst goals scored records in the division and now they’ve got their man, with Grant a proven Championship scorer bagging 40 goals from three seasons for West Brom and Huddersfield.

With the Baggies desperately under financial pressure this summer, it remains to be seen whether the club will have desired a permanent departure, and handing his full wage package to Cardiff will certainly give their financial pressure some much-needed release.
However, all of that does not mean Grant won’t be a huge loss. Now it’s up to the likes of Daryl Dike, and Brandon Thomas-Asante to fire West Brom to fulfilling their ambitions next season, but that may prove incredibly difficult if Corberan isn’t able to strengthen his squad.
