Alex Mowatt and Cedric Kipre set for new West Brom chances as Carlos Corberan speaks out
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has said that both Alex Mowatt and Cedric Kipre will be able to have an impact at The Hawthorns having returned from loan, via the Express and Star.
Both players spent last season on loan at Championship rivals, Middlesbrough and Cardiff City respectively, and West Brom reporter Lewis Cox has reported that Corberan believes Mowatt in particular can have a positive impact on return.
Mowatt hasn’t been able to find the level of consistency that earns him his move to West Brom from Barnsley in 2021 and struggled to hold down a consistent position at the Riverside. While Kipre impressed as Cardiff managed to stay clear of relegation from the Championship.

Corberan spoke of the role both players are set to play in the upcoming campaign: “For me, more than that they were playing in the Championship, is the profile of both players.
“Both are players with very good technical skills. If you want to be dominant with the ball, you need players with good technical skills.
“Mowatt as a six – he has the ability to play in the building up of the action. One player changes what your team is doing. I can give you thousands of examples in football – Barcelona isn’t the same with Busquets and without Busquets. Or Rodri at Manchester City.”
Running the midfield
It may seem rather over the top to compare Mowatt to the likes of Busquets and Rodri, but it shows the importance that Corberan believes the 28-year-old is capable of having at The Hawthorns in the coming season.
When the Baggies secured the services of the midfielder from Barnsley in 2021, he was one of the division’s hottest properties, scoring eight times and assisting on seven occasions as Valérien Ismaël’s side reached the play-offs.

Corberan has said that he wants to create a team that dominates the ball and that will only play into the hands of Mowett whose best asset is his technical ability on the ball, could see him return to the form that earned him his move in the first place.
For Kipre, he was an ever-present in what was a difficult season for the Bluebirds, in a side that had plenty of defending to do. But Cardiff were typically direct in their attacking play, so Kipre will have to adapt his on-the-ball characteristics to fit in with Corberan’s possession-based play.
