West Brom allow David Button to discuss transfer to Reading
West Brom have allowed David Button to open talks with Reading about a transfer to the League One club, according to Alan Nixon.
Writing on his Patreon account (21 July), The Sun journalist is reporting that the first-team goalkeeper is not in the plans of Carlos Corberan and will be allowed to leave this summer.
Button wasn’t involved in the club’s pre-season friendly earlier this week despite being fit, and could be open to a switch to the Royals ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

“West Brom keeper David Button has been cleared to sign for Reading for the season,” he wrote.
“Button was in the Baggies team but will not figure for them in the next campaign, so he is being allowed to discuss a switch to the Royals.
“Reading are quickly assembling a new side after financial and embargo issues and Button may accept the switch.”
Bye
Button somehow started the 2022/23 season as the number one goalkeeper at the club and now he isn’t even in the plans of the manager despite no new shot-stopper being signed.
Alex Palmer is now the established number one at the club after impressing last season, while Josh Griffiths looks set to compete with him as the number two for the new season.

Button is likely to still be on fairly decent wages after signing a new deal las summer to stick around, so getting those off the books should be a priority if he isn’t in the manager’s plans anymore.
He proved he’s simply not good enough for the Championship after countless howlers last season, and a drop down the pyramid could be best for him.
West Brom are doing the right thing letting him go, even if it may be for free, because we’ve moved on from needing him at The Hawthorns.
In other West Brom news, the club have missed out on an international midfielder after a £7m+ deal was confirmed.
