West Brom reject ‘Final’ offer from Luton Town for Alex Palmer

Luton Town have tabled a “final” offer to West Brom to sign Alex Palmer, which has been rejected according to BBC Radio West Midlands.

Writing on the BBC Sport website (31 July), the Premier League club are said to have made a take-it-or-leave-it offer for the 26-year-old goalkeeper but after talks it was rejected.

Reports on Saturday (July 29) reported that a bid had already been accepted, but that is not the case and Palmer is now set to stay at The Hawthorns for the 2023/24 season.

Excellent

When news filtered through that Luton had made a move for Palmer and he was left out of the friendly squad because of it, everyone feared the worst.

We finally have a settled number one goalkeeper since Sam Johnstone left the club, and he is more than good enough to be between the sticks and help us earn promotion to get back to the Premier League.

So losing him a week before the season starts would have been a total disaster, but with the player not pushing for the move and the board finally taking a stand we’ve shown that we do have some kind of ambition.

Palmer will have plenty of eyes on him now heading into the new season, and when the January window comes back around we potentially will need to fend off more competition for him.

But for now, we can celebrate the fact the board have a backbone and have kept hold of Palmer and now preparations for the new season can really kick on with the boss knowing who he can rely on.
