West Brom transfer news as Sory Kaba move now on cards at The Hawthorns

West Brom are hoping to beat Leeds United to the signing of striker Sory Kaba as the Baggies look to complete a move for a new striker this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper wrote in its print edition [1 August, pg 39] that the Baggies, the Whites, Cardiff City and Watford were all interested in signing the Midtjylland forward who spent last season on loan in South Wales.

Kaba scored eight goals in 17 appearances for the Bluebirds having joined them on loan in January, but returned to his parent club this summer and has already found the net once in a Europa Conference League Qualifier.

Carlos Corberan has been in the market for a striker this summer, with Daryl Dike once again struggling for fitness and Karlan Grant heading to the Cardiff City Stadium on loan, so a move for the 28-year-old forward appears to make sense.

A proven international, the Guinea forward has played 21 times for his national side, scoring three goals in the process and his last spell in England’s second tier seems to have impressed enough for plenty of Championship sides to take note.

Could do a lot worse

Kaba has never been hugely prolific throughout his career, but what he does offer is constant work rate and a physical presence at the top end of the pitch, who does have an eye for goal if you provide him with a chance.

The Cardiff team that the Guinea forward actually featured in last season was creatively weak, struggling towards relegation until very late into the season, yet he still managed to score a goal nearly every other game.

If he’d spent the whole season in the division, he’d have likely managed to hit the 20-goal mark, however, Corberan is aiming to play an attractive brand of possession-based football this season at the Hawthorns, a far cry from the long-ball style deployed in South Wales last season.

Standing at 6ft 2, Kaba is similar in profile to Dike, meaning the Baggies may lack variety in there forward options, but the pool in which they can acquire talent is limited due to the restricted financial wiggle room at the Hawthorns this summer.

West Brom could ultimately do a lot worse business than bringing the Midtjylland forward in this summer, either on a loan deal, or a permanent one. As long as it is for the right price.
