Sky Sports pundit Neil Lennon cannot believe ‘Absolute madness’ in West Brom v Blackburn, Carlos Corberan ‘apoplectic’
Neil Lennon was left gobsmacked by the “absolute madness” as West Brom conceded two quick goals in their Championship opener against Blackburn Rovers.
The Northern Irishman was covering the fixtures as a pundit on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (5 August, 15:25) and had previously described how the Baggies were the better team at Ewood Park.
However, Rovers hit a quickfire double in the 20th and 22nd minutes through Dilan Markanday and Harry Leonard, much to the annoyance of West Brom boss Carlos Corberan.
“It’s just absolute madness at the minute, another one for Blackburn,” Lennon said.
“It was a sloppy ball from Kipre, Smozdics intercepted it (and) rolled in young Leonard, 19 years old, who flashed in a shot from more or less the same position, right-hand side of the box, it beat Alex Palmer at his near post which is poor goalkeeping from him and all of a sudden from a period of dominance West Brom find themselves 2-0 down.
“Carlos Corberan is absolutely apoplectic in the dugout.”
Not a good sign
It is very early in the season…in fact it is as early in the season as it can possibly be!
But it is not what West Brom fans will want to see or hear so early in the campaign. Having started pretty well at Ewood Park, the Baggies will have hoped to make a flying start to the campaign.
However, a poor couple of minutes undid some early good work and the sloppy nature of the goals will have incensed both Carlos Corberan and the travelling West Brom faithful.
After a difficult summer at The Hawthorns, the signings of Jeremy Sarmiento and Josh Maja brought a little bit of optimism heading into the campaign and, having missed out on the play-offs last term, would have been hoping to make a flying start here.
As Lennon alluded to, though, a real period of madness so early in the game and early in the season put a dampener on an away-day trip for West Brom.
