Sky Sports pundit reacts as Newcastle ready bid for West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

West Brom are likely to negotiate a good fee if Newcastle come calling for goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, believes Kevin Campbell.

Writing via his Patreon account on Sunday (18 June), Sun journalist Alan Nixon claimed that the Magpies were readying a bid for the 21-year-old Englishman.

Dan Ashworth, Baggies’ former technical director, who’s now at St James’ Park, is a big fan and wants to bring him to the Champions League club.

Discussing this exclusively with West Brom News, Campbell, a Sky Sports pundit said, “If Newcastle want the player and the player is willing to go, then I’m sure the club will negotiate a good fee.

Newcastle are pretty mobile. They’re not only buying first-team players, they’re buying young players as well who are going to develop behind the scenes.

I think for the player, if he’s not going to be playing regularly in the first team, I think it’s a transfer that he’s really got look at.

The Baggies may need to cash in on players if they are to free up funds and strengthen the first team this season.

Due to an injury to Alex Palmer last season, Griffiths was drafted into the first team and he could show fans glimpses of how good he really is.

For the club’s first game of the 2023/24 season v Blackburn on 5 August, Palmer was back in the playing XI and Griffiths did not make the matchday squad.

In other West Brom news, a Sky Sports pundit shares if an ‘Outstanding’ Premier League player who’s got England ambitions is set to seal a move to the Hawthorns this summer.
