Okay Yokuslu makes West Brom admission after defeat v Blackburn

West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu has admitted the opening day defeat to Blackburn Rovers was not the result his side were hoping for to start their season.

The Baggies suffered a 2-1 loss at Ewood Park after going two goals down in the first half before Matt Phillips got one back just minutes into the second half, but it was’t enough to inspire a comeback.

Yokuslu took to Instagram after the game to admit it wasn’t the start Albion wanted and reiterated that there’s a “long way to go”, while also thanking the travelling fans for their efforts.

West Brom

Lacking depth

The Baggies squad is quite clearly lacking in depth at the moment due to the injury situation and the distinct lack of signings so far this summer.

While Josh Maja’s arrival will help, having Brandon Thomas-Asante as the only forward option never really seemed like it was going to be enough.

Blackburn are a decent side and they proved that for the majority of last season so it was never going to be an easy game, but it was poor to go two goals down fairly early into the contest.

West Brom

Yokuslu is right that there’s a lot of games to go yet, though, and it is going to take experienced players like him to show his quality and help lead the group.

It’s not an easy situation with the ongoing financial issues around the club, but Carlos Corberan needs to be able to bring in a few more signings to even begin to be talked about as potential promotion contenders.

In other West Brom news, a former Baggies manager has made an admission about the club.
