West Brom news as Carlos Corberan makes transfer admission following Stoke defeat
Carlos Corberan has called for West Brom to make more signings following the Carabao Cup defeat away at Stoke City.
The Baggies suffered a 2-1 loss at the Bet365 Stadium after Brandon Thomas-Asante’s goal wasn’t enough to earn a place in the second round of the competition on Tuesday night (8 August).
After the game, Corberan told BirminghamLive that he is hoping to add more depth to the squad over the course of the next few weeks following defeats in the opening two games of the campaign.

“We are still having the conversations with the club to see what things can happen with things we can approach, how we can approach the market,” said Corberan.
“So still for me it’s work to do with our communication and co-ordination with the club, but it all depends about our financial possibilities.
“We need to develop as a team – especially to avoid the losing of the ball that we have conceded a lot of goals from and we still need to fix the team to balance better the squad because it’s important to have two players in each position to have a more competitive squad. For me, today was open as an option for some players who were showing a good level.”
Depth required
There is no one that knows better than Corberan that depth is needed to be even mentioned in the conversation for a place at the top end of the Championship this season.
After making nine changes and handing a number of youngsters the chance to impress against Stoke, he will be reasonably happy with what he saw in the cup tie.
But the fact remains that he was forced into playing those players due to a lack of options and it still goes down as another defeat at the start of the campaign.

The manager does still have new signing Josh Maja to call upon once he is available as well as Jeremy Sarmiento, who came off the bench last night in Staffordshire and should be in contention to start soon.
He absolutely does still need to get a few players through the door as there is no way Albion can compete across a 46-game season with the current squad and injuries.
