Nathaniel Chalobah sends message on Twitter after altercation with fans in West Brom clash at Stoke City
West Brom midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah has taken to Twitter to apologise for an altercation with supporters in the Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke City.
Birmingham Live reported on Wednesday (9 August) that the former Chelsea player was spotted making a rude gesture towards the Baggies faithful at half-time of the 2-1 loss at the bet365 Stadium.
The 28-year-old saw a move to Maccaba Haifa break down in the close season and has not been an altogether too popular figure since moving to The Hawthorns in January.
Chalobah admitted as such on social media while showing remorse for his indiscretion.
Posting on Twitter, he wrote: “You may have read that I got into an altercation with a fan on Tuesday night and for that I apologise to the fans and the club. I’m sure you’ll all be the first to tell me that you haven’t seen the best of what I can do on the pitch since I signed…
“…I’m very aware and frustrated myself and I let my emotions get the better of me. I’m working hard every day to make sure I can deliver my maximum on the pitch and I hope you’ll see that this season. Once again, sorry to you all, Nate.”
Fair play, now apologise through your performances on the pitch
We have all done things we regret out of frustration.
But most of us are not professional footballers, where every action is scrutinised and every mistake pounced upon.
The situation here absolutely is not helped by the fact Chalobah just has not cut the mustard at West Brom, to do something like this with a support base already not on your side is naive in the extreme.

Having said that, it does take a lot of character to own up to your mistakes and publicly apologise for your transgressions, which is what Chalobah has done here.
It will not be enough to fully assuage West Brom supporters, though, and Chalobah will have a fair bit of making up to do with the Baggies’ loyal fanbase.
The best way he can apologise now is on the pitch and win fans over with some improved performances for Carlos Corberan’s side. Over to you, Nathaniel.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies could be about to sign Oscar Fraulo on loan.
