West Brom injury news as Brandon Thomas-Asante set to be assessed ahead of Leeds United trip
West Brom are set to assess striker Brandon Thomas-Asante ahead of their trip to Leeds United at Elland Road on Friday 18 August, according to Express & Star.
According to the UK publication (17 August), Albion are waiting to see if striker Thomas-Asante can train today ahead of deciding on a first XI for the trip to Leeds.
The 24-year-old was left out of the Baggies’ squad for Saturday’s [August 12] 3-2 win over Swansea City as a result of an ankle injury picked up against Stoke City in their EFL Cup loss, and Carlos Corberan admitted he was unsure whether Thomas-Asante would be fit for Friday’s game.

However, according to Express & Star, Thomas-Asante will continue to be assessed and should he come through training unscathed, he may be considered for selection against Leeds United.
Josh Maja set for first start?
Thomas-Asante’s injury came at a bad time for Corberan and the Albion given his crucial importance to the club with the Spaniard so desperately short on attacking options right now.
It’s a great thing the club added the likes of Jeremy Sarmiento and Josh Maja when they did or Thomas-Asante’s absence could have proven a real pivotal blow in the season’s opening weeks.

With Maja yet to get his Albion career properly underway, Friday could well be his chance to impress against a team who were interested in his services and what a statement it could be for the player and West Brom.
The former Bordeaux man is certainly ready to lead the line for Corberan and this is his opportunity to show that he can start ahead of Thomas-Asante in the coming weeks, after enjoying a terrific individual campaign in France last season scoring 16 goals in the French second division.
Can he match those heights for his new club this season? If he can, West Brom may well be closer to promotion than they expected.
