West Brom ready to sell Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Grady Diangana and Nathaniel Chalobah to fund new arrivals

West Brom are ready to sell Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Nathaniel Chalobah and Grady Diangana before the transfer deadline to fund new signings, reports Darren Witcoop.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (22 August), the newspaper journalist reports that the Baggies are open to the sale of the first-team trio in order to cut the wages from the books.

But the players would need to be replaced and the club would be hoping to bring in new arrivals with the cash raised, with Bristol City named as a possible destination for Gardner-Hickman.

“West Brom are ready to sell Taylor Gardner-Hickman to Bristol City while the Baggies remain keen to offload Grady Diangana and Nathaniel Chalobah to cut wages and make room for potential new arrivals,” he wrote.

Clock is ticking

There is clearly not a lot of time remaining in the transfer window, and West Brom need to make some decisions quickly and ensure that whatever their plan is gets executed.

We need reinforcements all over the pitch right now if we want to give Carlos Corberan a squad strong enough to be in contention for promotion this season, but selling players without replacing them won’t help.

West Brom

So far we have brought in two players without spending a penny despite selling Dara O’Shea for £7m to Burnley, so our current financial situation is clearly not great.

But selling these three and also getting their wages off the books would be smart if we can definitely reinvest the money into players the manager wants for the squad.

Ultimately if we’re better off at the end of it then it will make sense, but the way the window has gone so far we have to be careful that we don’t lose them all and then end up being short on numbers.
