Carlton Palmer shares ‘concern’ on West Brom transfer target Isaac Hayden

Carlton Palmer has claimed there is an obvious concern around any West Brom move for Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden after he experienced injury troubles last season.

Hayden played just 14 games on loan with Norwich City due to injury struggles, which has been shared as a concern for West Brom, who won’t want to add another injury-ridden player to their already light squad.

Plamer did however share that he believes Hayden would be a good addition to the Baggies’ squad, saying he is still a very good player and could play a part in the squad if he does opt to join.

Speaking to Football League World on 24 August, Palmer shared: “It is reported that Isaac Hayden has been made available. QPR, Millwall, Middlesbrough and West Brom are some of the clubs interested in his signature.

“Hayden spent last season on loan at Norwich but only made 14 appearances due to injury.

“The 28-year-old player is a very good player but obviously the concern was that he didn’t play a lot of football last season while on loan at Norwich but he would still be a good addition to your squad.”

The Baggies need bodies

West Brom are in desperate need of additions to their squad this summer, with a lack of funds available to make big transfer news, while current players are still expected the leave the club before the end of the transfer window as the club look to raise funds.

Should Hayden arrive at the Hawthorns, he will bolster a midfield that could yet still be losing Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby, and provide a screen in front of Carlos Corberan’s defensive unit in his role as a deep midfielder.

His injury issues while at Norwich will of course be a concern, after a repetitive knee injury kept him out for a combined 172 days, having previously had surgery on his knee in December 2021 and didn’t return until April 2022, after a previous knee injury had kept him out between March and June 2021 [Transfermarkt].

At this stage of the transfer window, West Brom need to get bodies through the door and may be willing to take the risk on Hayden and keep their fingers crossed that the repetitive injury doesn’t rear its head once more.

In other West Brom news, another Baggies-linked midfielder is expected to leave his club in the coming days.
