Sky Sports reporter stunned by John Swift in West Brom win v Middlesbrough
Rob Palmer was wowed by West Brom midfielder John Swift after his goal in the victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday (26 August).
Reporting live from the Hawthorns for Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday on 26 August (03:30pm), the journalist described the 28-year-old’s strike as a “brilliant individual goal”.
The midfielder beat several Boro defenders on his way to grabbing the Baggies’ second goal in their 4-2 victory, with Cedric Kipre, Brandon Thomas-Asante and new signing Jeremy Sarmiento also getting on the scoresheet.

Palmer said: “Swift picked up the ball, took on the whole Boro defence – five, maybe six of them tried to stop him and then he’s blasted the ball into the top corner.
“It’s a brilliant individual goal.”
Quality
It’s no secret that Swift has bags of quality in his locker and it won’t come as too much of a surprise for West Brom fans to see him score a goal like this.
Their only gripe, however, is that he perhaps doesn’t do it enough and there’s plenty more he could provide on a regular basis in an Albion shirt after grabbing his second of the season.
But you have to sit back and enjoy such a magnificent goal, even if the Boro defenders will be incredibly disappointed in their role in allowing it to happen.

It came at a good time for the Baggies as it gave them a two-goal lead before they were quickly pegged back just a minute later by the visitors’ forward Emmanuel Latte Lath.
But they will be delighted to have scored two more goals in the game, with Sarmiento registering his first strike for the club in injury time as he showed what he could offer during his loan spell this season.
