West Brom youngster Jamie Andrews joins Grimsby Town on loan

Jamie Andrews will spend the rest of the season on loan at Grimsby Town, West Brom confirmed on Monday (August 28).

The club announced on their official website that 20-year-old midfielder Andrews has joined the League 2 outfit for the duration of the 2023-24 campaign.

Andrews, who has made just one senior appearance for the Baggies, has had previous loan spells at Yeovil and Leamington.

“Albion midfielder Jamie Andrews has joined Sky Bet League Two side Grimsby Town on a season-long loan,” a West Brom statement read.

“Everyone at the football club would like to wish Jamie the best of luck for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.”

Good experience

Having spent time away from The Hawthorns in non-league, this latest move is exactly what Andrews needs for the next step in his development and, who knows, he might come back ready to battle for a spot in West Brom’s first team.

Andrews signed his first professional contract with West Brom in 2021, and was handed a first taste of the first team when he came off the bench in an FA Cup third-round replay against Chestfielder in January of this year.

Carlos Corberan has already spoken previously of his need to look at the options in the Baggies’ youth teams and by going out and gaining experience of senior league football, he will be in a great position to catch the Spaniard’s eye going forward.

In Grimsby, Andrews is joining a side who finished 11th in League Two last season and are 15th after five games this time around, having one once, drawn three times, and lost one.

In other West Brom news, a move for Reggie Cannon to the Hawthorns is now on the cards.
