West Brom reject £2m bid from Stoke City for Brandon Thomas-Asante – Sky Sports

West Brom have rejected a £2m bid from Stoke City for striker Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (30 August), the journalist reports that the Baggies’ Championship rivals have tabled an offer but saw it turned down.

The Potters are considering returning with a new bid however, while other clubs are said to be monitoring the situation too.

“Stoke City have had a £2m bid rejected by West Brom for striker Brandon Thomas-Asante,” he wrote. “Considering another.

“Other clubs monitoring situation as well.”

Crazy

We all know that the club are desperate for cash and pretty much everyone is up for sale at this point, even at this stage of the window.

But allowing Thomas-Asante to leave the club this late on in the day without having a replacement lined up is just bonkers.

The club spent around £300k on his signature last summer and he came in and immediately made an impact in the Championship, proving to be an excellent option in Daryl Dike’s absence through injury.

More than £2m would obviously be huge profit for the club and would go a long way to helping our financial situation, but with Josh Maja the only fit striker at the club right now it would be a huge risk.

Not to mention that the going rate for strikers is much higher than that, and the move would be to a direct rival in the division, it simply has to be for way more if we’re going to let him go – which we shouldn’t anyway.

In other West Brom news, the club have agreed to rip up the contract of one first-team player.
