West Brom respond to new Stoke City bid for Brandon Thomas-Asante

West Brom have turned down Stoke City’s second bid for Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper reported online on Wednesday (30 August) that “two official approaches” have been made for the 24-year-old striker but both have been turned down by the Albion because they do not want to sell him.

Sunday Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop reported on Wednesday that a second offer of £2.5million was being put together by Stoke after their initial offer for Thomas-Asante was turned down.

It now seems that bid has also been kicked into touch by the Baggies.

Hands off

Albion cannot afford to let any more players go before the transfer window closes if they want Carlos Corberan to stand any chance of winning promotion this season.

Sure, BTA isn’t one of the best players in the Championship but he’s a firm fan favourite who’s got the ability to pop up with big goals on big occasions.

He’s already netted three goals in four appearances this season, with all three goals coming in his last three appearances against Leeds, Stoke and Middlesbrough.

Last term, the ex-Salford attacker scored seven times in 33 Championship games but he only started 20 times and found himself playing out on the wings a lot.

There’s a good chance BTA will be West Brom’s top goalscorer this season and you don’t let someone with that potential leave for as little as what Stoke are offering.

We’re probably going to end up in a similar area of the table to Stoke this season, plus they’re a local rival so it really wouldn’t be wise to annoy an already-aggravated fanbase earlier by sanctioning this move.

In other West Brom news, Corberan has set a public challenge for one of his midfielders.
