Brandon Thomas-Asante update emerges from West Brom on deadline day after Stoke City bids

West Brom may have their resolve tested by Stoke City if they come in with an increased deadline-day bid for Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to journalist Lewis Cox.

Writing for the Express & Star on Friday (1 September), Cox shared that a lack of interest in some of the Baggies’ more peripheral figures means more popular players may be sold before the 11pm transfer deadline.

Winger Grady Diangana is one player named who West Brom have been trying to move on as the club try to negotiate a precarious financial situation but a move has yet to materialise.

Stoke have thus far been unsuccessful in their pursuit of 24-year-old forward Thomas-Asante, but a higher offer might force West Brom’s hand before the close of the day.

Hold your nerve

Thomas-Asante enjoyed a very solid debut campaign at The Hawthorns after arriving from Salford City last season, netting seven goals in 33 Championship appearances.

He has started this campaign in fine form for the Baggies, with two goals in three league matches already, leading the line for West Brom despite the arrival of Josh Maja on a free transfer.

West Brom’s difficult financial situation has been well documented and Stoke are no doubt hoping to negotiate a better deal with that in mind.

But Carlos Corberan’s side have a real shot at promotion if they can keep their squad together and if they can keep everyone fit. The last thing he needs is to lose a player clearly key to his plans this close to the deadline day.

The temptation to sell if an increased offer arrives will be there, but on this deal in particular the Baggies need to hold their nerve and back the manager.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are exploring a move for Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo.
