Carlos Corberan stance emerges after West Brom reject Stoke bids for Brandon Thomas-Asante

Carlos Corberan has issued a response after West Brom have turned down two bids from Stoke City for Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Speaking to BirminghamLive on 1 September, the Albion boss said the Potters’ offers didn’t match the club’s valuation of the 24-year-old, with the latest bid worth up to £2.5million.

The Spaniard added that he is pleased to see that the Baggies “value” the players that he currently has in his squad after they have slapped a £5million price tag on the forward.

West Brom

“I think that the interest that appeared in Asante was not an interest that showed the level of Asante,” said Corberan.

“I like to see that the club value the players that we have right now. Playing for West Brom, as a first-11 striker, you can understand that he is a very good Championship striker.

“We have very good strikers with him and, with Maja, they are two strikers who are totally different. They can give us different things on the pitch and I am very happy to have them in the squad.”

Hold firm

It’s important that West Brom hold firm on their valuation of Thomas-Asante and don’t let him go for a fee that doesn’t represent how important he currently is to Corberan’s plans.

The forward is one of just two out-and-out attackers at the club, with Josh Maja still trying to get up to speed following his arrival from Bordeaux.

The bids that have come in from Stoke are nowhere near the price Albion would be looking for to let him go and it seems unlikely that they would double their latest offer to try and sign him.

West Brom

He’s done a pretty good job of leading the line on his own this season after scoring three goals in four games to build upon the nine strikes he registered last season in his debut campaign for the Baggies following his move from Salford City.

In reality, Corberan needs some help in adding to his forward options, but that appears unlikely with the financial issues surrounding the club and the deadline rapidly approaching.

In other West Brom news, talks are ongoing at the club to bring in a new signing on deadline day.
