West Brom made late push for Cody Drameh with Carlos Corberan making late call

Carlos Corberan made a late call to try and sign Cody Drameh for West Brom on loan from Leeds United this summer, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper reported on their website on Friday (1 September) that the Baggies boss made a late attempt to secure his services, but wasn’t quick enough to sway him away from joining Birmingham City.

Corberan has been keen to sign a right-back throughout the transfer window, but the financial situation at the Hawthorns has seen the Baggies limited to loan deals and free transfers and they may have thought they’d done enough to secure the out-of-favour defender.

Hull City had looked likely to agree on a permanent deal with the 21-year-old, but failed to agree on personal terms and having missed out the Baggies remain interested in adding a defensive option to their squad and have confidence they can complete a deal before the deadline. Too late

Drameh would have been an incredibly exciting addition to the ranks at the Hawthorns, although he has struggled to find his feet at Elland Road he has impressed in temporary spells with both Luton Town and Cardiff City in the past.

Corberan desperately wants and needs another option on the right of defence, but it seems odd that they were so late to act to try and sign the 21-year-old, with him quite clearly being down the pecking order at Elland Road, especially with the arrival of Djed Spence.

The fact that the Spaniard himself made a call to try and sway the defender’s thinking at the 11th hour shows how much he wants to add another option to his squad before the transfer window closes, however, it does seem likely he will get someone through the door.

Darnell Furlong and Martin Kelly are the only senior options available at the Hawthorns and while they are both steady defenders, they aren’t examples of players likely to push the Baggies into the play-off places this season.

Hopefully, somebody is signed before the window closes.
