West Brom receive approach from Leeds United for Brandon Thomas-Asante after £5m news

Leeds United have made an enquiry for West Brom forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, according to Mail Sport.

The newspaper tweeted on Friday (1 September) that the Whites have asked about the availability of the 24-year-old after the Baggies rebuffed an offer of £2million from Stoke City on Thursday.

Mail journalist Tom Collomosse had earlier reported on Twitter that West Brom value Thomas-Asante at £5m but thus far no side has come close to meeting their asking price.

Leeds are possibly in the hunt for another forward amid continued doubt over the future of Willy Gnonto, who calciomercato.com say is close to finally joining Premier League side Everton.

In the balance

It is fair to say there are others in the squad who Albion would rather see exit The Hawthorns than Thomas-Asante.

The forward has started the season in good form, scoring twice in three Championship appearances having netted on seven occasions in the league during his debut campaign last term.

But the precarious financial situation at West Brom means that any attractive offers for players in their squad are likely to be at least considered and that is seemingly the case with Thomas-Asante.

There is no shortage of interest in the 24-year- signature either, with both Stoke and Leeds – two of the more active sides during the window – chief among the former Salford City man’s signature.

Whether a deal happens or not is very unclear at the moment, though, and anyone hoping to prise him away from West Brom is going to have to stump up the cash West Brom are asking for otherwise this is a non-starter. With the clock ticking down to the 11pm deadline, this one is firmly in the balance.

In other West Brom news, Coventry City still have time sign Baggies ace John Swift before the deadline.
