West Brom sources adamant about what will happen today amid fire sale fears – BBC Sport journalist

West Brom will not accept below market value for any player on deadline day, according to BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone.

The journalist reported for the BBC Sport website on Friday (1 September) that the club are adamant that this is the case.

Attacker Brandon Thomas-Asante has interest from a few Premier League clubs, while Stoke City have already had a bid rejected for the player, according to BBC Sport journalist Alex Howell (1 September).

“The Baggies’ finances have been the subject of intense debate amongst supporters, leading to fears of a fire sale,” Stone wrote for BBC Sport.

“But that is not the word coming out of The Hawthorns, with sources adamant that whilst sales could happen, the club will not accept below market value for any player. They are also looking to sign a right-sided wing-back.”

Worrying times

It remains worrying times to be a West Brom fan, with supporters simply having to sit back and watch on as their star players continue to be linked with an exit from The Hawthorns.

More frustratingly is that the sales are purely down to the financial troubles at the club, which do not look like easing anytime soon.

Thomas-Asante is one of the key figures under Carlos Corberan, and should really be kept at The Hawthorns this season, unless of course a really substantial offer comes in.

Even if he did, there really wouldn’t be any time at all for the Baggies to bring in a replacement, which they would definitely need if they are to have any hope of being in contention for promotion to the Premier League.

Star centre-back Dara O’Shea has already left the Albion this summer, with the Republic of Ireland international moving to newly-promoted Burnley.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have made an approach to sign a Newcastle United senior midfielder on loan.
