West Brom transfer news emerges ahead of deadline with defender wanted
West Brom are still working on an 11th-hour transfer with Carlos Corberan keen to sign a right-back before the deadline, according to Joe Chapman.
The Birmingham Live reporter shared via Twitter on Friday (1 September) that the Baggies remain optimistic about confirming a new arrival in defence before the 11pm deadline, as desired by Corberan throughout this transfer window.
There are no senior departures expected from the Hawthorns in the final hours of the transfer market, despite England under-21 defender Ethan Ingram being set to join Salford City on a temporary basis [Fabrizio Romano, 1 September].
Corberan has been vocal in his desire to strengthen the right-back position at the Midlands club for the majority of the summer and the Baggies do hold an interest in USMNT defender Reggie Cannon with the 25-year-old currently a free agent [Daily Mail, 28 August].
Don’t go to bed
It has been a strange summer in many ways at the Hawthorns with the Baggies hands tied for much of the transfer window due to the limited investment provided to Corberan and those around him when buying players.
However, the deals that have been completed have seemed fairly sensible and reasonably exciting, with Josh Maja and Jeremy Sarmiento both highly rated players with plenty of quality to have a positive impact in the Championship.

A right-back would be an incredibly helpful addition in the final hours of the transfer window and would represent a successful summer for Corberan and the Baggies, even with the reliance on free transfers and loan deals.
The confidence from those around the Hawthorns that West Brom will manage to complete any incoming deal before the transfer window closes this summer should relax fans and if they do make a move for Cannon, they will be able to complete the signing after the deadline as he is currently a free-agent.
