Carlos Corberan admits West Brom frustration after Huddersfield were ‘better’ in 2-1 loss

Carlos Corberan admitted that Huddersfield Town were the better side as West Brom lost 2-1 to Neil Warnock’s side on Saturday 02 September.

The Baggies fell behind in the first half courtesy of a goal from Defano Burgzorg before John Swift levelled only minutes after half-time, but Jack Rudoni secured all three points for the Terriers with his 96th-minute winner.

Corberan was left frustrated by his first Championship defeat of the season, admitting that he didn’t understand why his side didn’t manage the transitions of the away team.

Speaking to the Express and Star following the defeat on Saturday (2 September), he said: “We lost a good opportunity to win three points but we didn’t win them because Huddersfield, in many moments of the game were better than us.

“I think this is the Championship this year, if you don’t manage every single thing well, you put the result at risk. We could have won the game, and after they have the opportunity, because we didn’t manage well not just the chance but also the counter-attack, I don’t understand why we didn’t manage better their transition.”

Frustrating day

It’s never a nice feeling when a side heads into the international break on the back of a defeat as it leaves players, managers and fans all stewing over what could have been done better for a fortnight with the opportunity to get back out on the pitch and put it right.

The Baggies could well have been the side celebrating a late winner had Josh Maja converted his late chance and scored his first West Brom goal, but the striker just wasn’t able to find his finishing touch to convert the opportunity.

West Brom

What Corberan can be pleased with is the start that his side has made in terms of performances even if not in results, the Baggies put in another decent performance against the Terriers and as already mentioned could’ve kept all three points on another day.

Considering the incredibly limited financial investment at the Hawthorns, West Brom do look bright at times and now the Spaniard has another two weeks to work with his players on the training ground as he imprints his style of football onto his side.

There is enough quality in this Baggies team that results will begin to go their way more consistently, it is just about Corberan finding that winning formula once they return to action at Ashton Gate.

In other West Brom news, Corberan made a late phone call to try to convince a Leeds player to join his Baggies side
