Carlos Corberan reacts to incredible West Brom transfer decision
Carlos Corberan has admitted that West Brom have made an “incredible” effort to maintain the squad that they have throughout the transfer window.
The Baggies made three signings this summer, signing Josh Maja permanently and agreeing on loan deals for Jeremy Sarmiento and Pipa as Corberan’s hands were tied for a majority of the transfer window.
West Brom were able to keep a number of their key players in the squad, with the Baggies rejecting approaches for striker Brandon Thomas-Asante from Stoke City and Leeds United late in the transfer window [Mail Sport, 1 September] and Corberan is impressed with the job done by the Baggies this summer.

As quoted by the Express and Star on Tuesday (5 September), he said: “This is the first time that I support – always knowing the financial possibilities of the club – that the club has made an incredible and massive effort to keep the squad that we have right now.
“We find in Pipa a player that will adapt to our resources, with his qualities and our possibilities.”
Working wonders
When you consider the Baggies barely had a penny to spend this summer, the business that they have managed to do has been nothing short of impressive and Corberan has been left with a reasonably competitive outfit in the Championship.
Keeping Thomas-Asante was no easy task considering how little money there is currently at the Hawthorns, but West Brom stood firm to ensure that they wouldn’t be left short of options with the transfer deadline looming.
There is plenty of quality in Corberan’s side, with the likes of Grady Diangana and Daryl Dike capable of being excellent Championship players, when fit and motivated to play. The next step is going to make this squad that has been kept together start winning more games to climb the table.

A push for the playoffs is never out of the question as England’s second tier seems incredibly open in the early stages of the campaign, with Preston the only team unbeaten and only one of the relegated teams (Leicester City) currently placing in the promotion or play-off positions.
Hopefully, now that Corberan has a squad he believes to be good enough for the division, West Brom can begin to climb the table.
