Nathaniel Chalobah video footage sums up why West Brom should have sold him
Video footage has emerged that shows why West Brom should have sold Nathaniel Chalobah during the summer transfer window.
The Baggies Bible Twitter page posted a clip of the 28-year-old making very little effort to track back for Albion as Jack Rudoni went on to score a 96th-minute winner for Huddersfield Town on Saturday (2 September).
The midfielder, who came on as a substitute for Okay Yokuslu in the 2-1 defeat at the Hawthorns, held talks with Maccabi Haifa over the summer about a potential move but it eventually failed to materialise and he remained at the club.
There is no doubt that Chalobah hasn’t been the most popular player amongst the West Brom supporters since he arrived on an 18-month deal from Fulham in January.
He failed to impress in his 13 appearances for the club in the second half of last season, leading to many hoping he would be on his way out over the summer.
Even though that looked extremely likely with Carlos Corberan clearly open to his departure, he still remains at the Hawthorns and hasn’t done much to improve his reputation at the start of this campaign in his six outings.
Birmingham Live reported on 9 August that the former Chelsea player was spotted making a rude gesture towards the Baggies faithful at half-time of the 2-1 loss at the bet365 Stadium on 8 August.
The midfielder then took to Twitter to apologise for his mistake and admitted that his performances for the club haven’t been good enough.
“I’m sure you’ll all be the first to tell me that you haven’t seen the best of what I can do on the pitch since I signed,” he said.
“I’m very aware and frustrated myself and I let my emotions get the better of me. I’m working hard every day to make sure I can deliver my maximum on the pitch and I hope you’ll see that this season. Once again, sorry to you all, Nate.”

While his apology was largely accepted by the fans, his displays on the field haven’t gotten much better since his admission.
In fact, his lackadaisical effort to try and close down a Huddersfield player on the halfway line before the visitors went on to grab the winner probably shows his performances are getting worse.
There are young players – even fans in the stadium for that matter – that would at least break out of a jog and do a better job than Chalobah in this instance.
It really is shocking for a professional footballer – especially playing at Championship level – to seemingly care so little while the fans are paying their hard-earned money to watch him play.
If he hasn’t already been given some honest words about his involvement in the goal that saw Albion lose the game, then one of the coaching staff seriously needs to do that.
This can’t be allowed to stand and, if things don’t improve, he should be shipped out of the club at the next available opportunity because it’s completely unacceptable.
In other West Brom news, one Albion player was basically non-existent in the Huddersfield defeat.
