Tony Pulis offers Carlos Corberan verdict as West Brom have to do their ‘damnedest to keep him’

Tony Pulis has offered his verdict on Carlos Corberan, with the former West Brom boss believing the Baggies have appointed a “very good manager” and they must do their “damnedest to keep him.”

Corberan took over from Steve Bruce at the Hawthorns last season and in what has been a difficult period for West Brom off of the field, the Spaniard has done an excellent job, finishing ninth last season and currently sitting 11th after the opening five games of the season.

Pulis, who has stood on the other side of the technical area to the Baggies boss has been left impressed by the former Leeds United assistant’s work and believes that he is the right man to lead West Brom through a difficult period.

Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast (12 September, 46:30), he said: “He looks very organised, he looks as though he has control of people. He looks as though he’d be one of them, first in, in the morning, last one to leave. The good managers sleep with one eye open all the time, they can never rest.

“I think Albion have got a good manager there, they should do their damnedest to keep him and do their damnedest to back him because I really do think he’s a good manager. The crowd are massive, they’re going to play a massive part as they always do. You get that ground full and get them behind the team and the manager and it’s such a difficult place.”

Some backing

It’s no secret that Corberan is a man admired by a lot of people within the footballing world, but for the Baggies boss to get that sort of backing from one of the more successful West Brom bosses in recent years is a recognition.

For his entire tenure the Albion boss has had his hands tied due to the lack of investment he has received from those above him at the Hawthorns but has still managed to build a competitive squad that tries to play an exciting brand of football.

The only problem will be how happy Corberan is to continue managing under these constraints, as Pulis said he deserves backing from the club to try and help them return to the Premier League and as shown this summer, that doesn’t seem to be the case under the current ownership.

Hopefully, whether it be through new ownership or investment, the Baggies’ boss can be given some money to spend in the January transfer window as with a couple more additions to his squad, West Brom would have an incredibly competitive Championship side.

In other West Brom news, Corberan has admitted Jeremy Sarmiento must solve some ‘problems’ before he can start for the Baggies
