Carlos Corberan challenges West Brom to discover their best level after steady start

Carlos Corberan has challenged his West Brom side to discover their best level to remain competitive in the Championship this season.

The Baggies have had a fairly steady start to the campaign without really blowing anyone away, but with ambitions of a play-off push and players and manager alike having hopes of promotion, West Brom will need a few more points on the board.

But with many players seemingly still finding their feet in Corberan’s side, the former Leeds United assistant boss believes that his players will have to be at their best to be competitive in one of the strongest Championships the league has ever seen.

West Brom

As quoted by the Express and Star (19 September) he said: “To be the most competitive team that we are going to be, we are going to need the best level of every player on the pitch. This year in the Championship, if you don’t compete at the highest level, you are not going to win football games.

“The competition is a level higher for me than last year, it demands from us to give the right solutions, the right performances, the right level on the pitch. It’s true that every player on the pitch, and me, needs to do because there are things we must do better to win the games.”

Best

Corberan is truly a manager that gets in the trenches alongside his players and that is demonstrated by his insistence that he, as well as the players, must find his best level for the Baggies to compete at the top end of the table.

The building blocks are there to suggest that Albion are improving and have players with the sort of quality that could help Corberan push them into the top six, should everything begin to click into place in the coming weeks.

For players like Grady Diangana and Josh Maja, there is a feeling that the club is yet to have seen the best of them in a Baggies’ shirt, should they realise their potential at The Hawthorns. Both players are capable of carrying a team on their back into the play-off positions in the table.

With the standard of the Championship constantly improving, teams cannot afford to get stuck in the division following relegation, as West Brom are seeing right before their very eyes it becomes harder with each passing year to return to the Premier League.

Hopefully, Corberan and his side can match their best level and fire Albion up the table in the coming weeks.
