Middlesbrough made multi-million bid for West Brom star Jed Wallace in summer
Middlesbrough made a bid for West Brom midfielder Jed Wallace over the summer, according to John Percy.
The Telegraph journalist reported on Tuesday (19 September) that the Baggies turned down an offer worth £3million for their captain from their Championship rivals during the transfer window.
The 29-year-old’s departure would have seen yet another experienced player leave the Hawthorns after Carlos Corberan was forced to balance the books.

Couldn’t let him go
It would have been greeted with great disappointment if Wallace had left West Brom over the summer following his excellent first season at the club.
The midfielder scored six goals and laid on eight assists as he appeared in every single game for Albion over the course of the campaign.
That led to Corberan handing him the armband over the summer on the back of several departures, with the Spaniard seeing him as a key part of his plans.

It wouldn’t have come as a huge surprise if he had left due to the ongoing financial struggles the Baggies are facing, but it certainly wouldn’t have gone down well with the manager.
Although Wallace hasn’t had the best start this season after failing to score and registering just one assist in the opening six matches, he has the quality and experience to come good as the campaign goes on.
