West Brom defender Martin Kelly to miss several weeks with extreme blow – Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Brom...

West Brom defender Martin Kelly has been out for numerous weeks in what appears to be an extreme knee injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert believes that the 33-year-old, along with the Baggies staff, was extremely methodical with his return to action.

Tony Strudwick, the club’s Director of Medical, said that they expected him back in August, but the Englishman was very specific with how he wanted to return. [Birmingham Live]

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Kelly’s injury, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:

It sounds like the player was involved in that decision to be very methodical and conservative with his return timeline, as noted by Tony Strudwick.

Considering the timeline and player hesitation, sounds like a significant knee injury but difficult to say the severity but it could certainly be extreme.

“He does appear weeks away from making his first-team return.”

Kelly’s contract at the Hawthorns runs out at the end of the season and as things stand, it remains unlikely he gets a new deal.

He’s barely featured for the senior team since his move from Crystal Palace – where he was a first-team regular.

Even at Wigan, it looked like he would be getting game time but an injury ruined his loan spell.
