New West Brom star Simran Jhamat can take Baggies to the next level after emphatic display against Huddersfield
West Brom Women could have a new star on their hands in the shape of Simran Jhamat after opening her account for her new club against Huddersfield.
The club announced (8 September) that the 22-year-old former Liverpool forward joined the club from Coventry United, with coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still expecting her to “help out massively” this season.
On that end, she has lived up to the challenge so far after her emphatic display at The Hawthorns against Huddersfield Town, chipping in with her first Baggies goal in a 4-1 victory in the FA Women’s National League.
She came to the club was a vast portfolio of impressive clubs including Liverpool, Leicester, Lewes and Bristol City, earning herself international attention from a young age, representing England at the Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels.
Her arrival at the club was met with much anticipation – and high expectations. The Baggies ended their league campaign in a respectable eighth place, matching their position from the previous season. However, goalscoring was an issue, with West Brom only managing 28 goals across the season with the joint-second-lowest haul in the top eight of the table.

Hodgetts-Still’s side needed goals this season and after her Huddersfield display, they have just found a new ripe source of goals.
Jhamat opened the scoring with a poacher-esque finish at the near post, latching onto Hannah George’s chipped delivery into the box. Her dribbling ability was plain to see too, with her slaloming runs causing the Terriers issues throughout the game.
She continued to pepper the Terriers’ new goalkeeper signing Imogen Maguire’s goal before being substituted in the 72nd minute, but the display gave Baggies fans plenty to be excited about for the rest of the season.
If Jhamat can maintain her good form from the start of the season, she could be key in taking West Brom Women to the next level.
