West Brom to benefit as £130m news emerges – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Brom columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns...
Dan Plumley has insisted that West Brom stand to benefit from a new financial redistribution deal between the EFL and the Premier League.
The Guardian reported on 21 September that a long-awaited settlement of around £130million could be agreed very soon in the near future.
The finance expert admitted that the devil will be in the details once everything has been agreed, with the payments set to be based on a merit system.

“From what we can see from the press release so far, we’re led to believe that’s the total amount spread across the league system,” he exclusively told West Brom News.
“It’s going to be based on a merit payment system whereby, the higher up you finish, the more of that pot you get.
“That’s going to come into how much one club gets versus others in the system, but also likely it’s going to be linked to some squad cost agreements that clubs are going to have to adhere to so that extra money doesn’t just get thrown into transfers and wages.
“The devil will be in the detail and we’ve not seen that yet, but we can see the broad picture and it goes back to the Championship clubs getting a little bit more out of it.

“West Brom stand to benefit from it and you’re back into the every little helps mentality.”
In other West Brom news, Plumley has also predicted that a change of ownership is needed at The Hawthorns
