Preston injury news as Will Keane could return for Championship clash v West Brom

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe has confirmed that striker Will Keane has returned to full training and has hinted that he could play a part in Saturday’s Championship clash against West Brom.

Lowe, speaking to Lancashire Post (28 September), shared that if Keane can get through the next couple of training sessions without any problems then there’s a chance he may start the game against the Baggies at Deepdale on Saturday (30 September).

The Lilywhites man, previously dubbed “impressive” by his Republic of Ireland coach Stephen Kenny is Preston’s top scorer with four goals from five games and has missed the last three games after picking up a knock while away with Ireland.

Lowe, speaking to Lancashire Post, said: “Keano will join in with the group today and that’s it really. He’s been with the rehab team and finished his rehab yesterday. Today will be his first day joining the group, so really pleased to have him back.

“We will monitor him over the next couple of days and see where he’s at. If he is fit and ready and available then why not? (for Saturday).

“He’ll have to come through today and tomorrow of course, but the more attacking players you’ve got – Keano is our leading goal scorer so if he’s fit and ready he’ll be called upon, definitely yeah.”

Tough test for Corberan

Preston North End are flying high in the Championship right now, sitting pretty in third place, a point behind Leicester City and Ipswich Town at the top of the table and the only club in the division still yet to taste a defeat.

Lowe’s men also have so far the league’s second-best defence with just six goals conceded from eight games meaning they are well favourites for Saturday’s game against Carlos Corberan and his men.

West Brom

West Brom have found goals and wins hard to come by in recent weeks and enter Saturday’s contest just outside the top half of the table on ten points and a defeat to Preston will leave them 13 points behind their opponents which could be damaging at this early stage of the campaign, especially if they have promotion ambitions.

Certainly, there’s still a long way in the season to go but Corberan will have been desperate for his side to set the tone and their stall early but so far, it’s proven rather difficult with the growing injury list and the fact that they are without a win in September, can that run end on Saturday?

West Brom will have to be at their brilliant and perfect selves to get a much-needed win since the end of August but we’re yet to see that this season so far.
