Sheffield Wednesday injury news as Barry Bannan and Josh Windass could miss clash v West Brom

Sheffield Wednesday may be without “vital” duo Barry Bannan and Josh Windass when they face West Brom on Tuesday 3 October, according to The Star.

The newspaper reported on its website on Monday (2 October) that Xisco Munoz may be without the pair when his side face Carlos Corberan’s Baggies at The Hawthorns this week, after both players sat out the Owls 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on Friday (29 September).

Wednesday have had a difficult start to the campaign and are still looking for their first win of the season having returned to the Championship, while Corberan’s side come into this clash full of confidence having smashed Preston North End 4-0 last time out.

Discussing the fitness of Bannan and Windass, Xisco said: “They had injuries in the last part of the week and couldn’t play in today’s game. We will see if they can recover. You know Bannan and you know Windass, they both always try to give their 100% to push themselves to play.

“We will see but it’s a short time. I don’t know if we will be able to have them recovered or not.”

Advantage Baggies

West Brom should be coming into this game expecting nothing less than three points given their excellent performance against the previously unbeaten Preston in combination with the Owls’ dreadful start to the season under Xisco.

Without Bannan and Windass, two heroes of Wednesday’s promotion campaign last season, the visitors will look incredibly short of quality and the Baggies will be hoping to pick them apart. Against Sunderland Xisco’s side didn’t create a single big chance and only had 32 per cent of possession at home [Fotmob].

West Brom

Albion’s strength in midfield has been well documented with Alex Mowatt seriously impressing in recent weeks having returned to the Baggies’ starting XI. Without Bannan’s presence to battle away in the middle of the park, the former Barnsley man could run the show from the centre of the pitch.

However, the task for Corberan’s side now is to ensure that the win over Preston isn’t just a one-off and is instead the start of their season finally getting up and running. The quality is present in the side and the Baggies are capable of putting a run of good form together, a clash with Wednesday presents the perfect opportunity to build from the win over Ryan Lowe’s Preston side.

In other West Brom news, Carlton Palmer is hoping that a Baggies takeover can be completed sooner rather than later
