Journo ‘quite taken’ by Carlos Corberan comment after West Brom win v Preston
Express & Star reporter Lewis Cox was “quite taken” by a comment made by West Brom manager Carlos Corberan following the victory over Preston North End.
Albion appeared to revert to a four-man defence for the contest at Deepdale on Saturday [30 September], as they ran out 4-0 winners through goals from Darnell Furlong, Alex Mowatt, Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley.
However, Corberan stressed when speaking to reporters after the match that it was in fact the same 3-4-2-1 system he has favoured throughout this campaign.

When that was put to Jonny Drury on the Baggies Broadcast [2 October, 15m 13s], he said: “It certainly didn’t look like it.”
Cox added: “It looked like a 4-2-3-1, so we were quite taken by that.”
Bold call
Whichever formation it was, it certainly worked from Albion’s perspective.
The Baggies produced arguably their best performance under Corberan against a Preston side that had won four out of four on home turf this term.
Both wing-backs, Furlong and Phillips, were on the scoresheet, as was centre-back Bartley.
Albion fans will now no doubt be eager for Corberan to stick with that winning formula against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday [3 October].

Brandon Thomas-Asante will be eager to return to the XI, though, after Corberan went without a recognised striker at Deepdale, instead using Jed Wallace as the focal point up top.
That was a bold call, but ultimately one that paid off massively as West Brom tore their high-flying opponents apart.
Corberan has showed over the past few weeks that he is not afraid to make mass changes between games, so it will be interesting to see the XI fielded against Wednesday.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has explained a “crazy” decision he made against Preston.
