Rob Jones amazed by ‘absolutely frightening’ West Brom in 1-0 v Sheffield Wednesday
Rob Jones was amazed by West Brom’s dominance in their 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night, calling it “absolutely frightening”.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News (3 October, 8:44 pm), the commentator noted that the Baggies had the better possession and were dictating the game in the first half, but the Owls had the better chances to get the game’s second goal.
Carlos Corberan’s side led by one goal at halftime of the Championship clash, which was ultimately enough to secure all three points at The Hawthorns.

Jones said: “It’s really interesting because all of the possession and all of the territory is still West Brom. It’s so one-sided at times it’s absolutely frightening.
“Having said that, the two closest times we’ve come to a second goal in the game have both been for Sheffield Wednesday. It’s all West Brom but whilst it’s 1-0, it’s still dangerous for the hosts.”
Dominance
In the first half of this clash at the Hawthorns, Corberan’s men were dominant. Per BBC Sport, the Baggies had 69% possession, nine shots and seven corners, showing they were not slowing down after their 4-0 win at Deepdale on the weekend.
While John Swift got the 13th-minute goal to put the Baggies ahead, attempts have come from across the pitch and Corberan may be frustrated that his side only had a slight advantage at the break.

Jones was amazed by the Baggies’ tight grip on the possession, which is a nice change of pace for the side this season. Per FBRef, West Brom manages 49.7 per cent each game. While not poor, promotion pushers Leicester City and Southampton average in excess of 60 per cent, so reaching these numbers could be key for any promotion charge.
However, the first-half display was encouraging and Corberan would have been asking for more of the same from his men before they made their way out for the second half.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has explained a “crazy” decision he made against Preston.
